National Wine and Cheese Day is one of those unofficial food holidays that just makes sense to celebrate, especially here where we make wine and a cheese board a year-round priority. Wine and cheese have been paired for centuries because they were often made by the same farms, grapes into wine, milk into cheese, and eaten together simply because that's what was on hand. The fat in cheese and the acid in wine balance each other out, which is really why the two have stuck together this long.
This Sunday, we're leaning all the way into it. Orchard Street is building a cheese-focused menu made to pair with our wines, and SAYville Cheese is bringing their charcuterie cart on site for the day.
